Description
Mild steel, also known as low carbon steel, contains approximately 0.05–0.25% carbon. This low carbon content makes it ductile and easy to work with, but it is not as strong or hard as higher carbon steels.
Properties:
- Strength and Ductility: Good balance of strength and ductility, making it suitable for a variety of structural applications.
- Weldability: Excellent weldability due to its low carbon content.
- Cost: Generally cheaper than stainless steel, making it a cost-effective option for many applications.
- Corrosion Resistance: Poor corrosion resistance; susceptible to rust and corrosion when exposed to moisture and air, unless coated or treated.
- Thermal Conductivity: Good thermal conductivity, which is beneficial for applications where heat transfer is needed.
